“I am just trying to think about the future and not be sad.”
A few months ago, a veteran in Singapore’s tech scene threw me this question: “How do we empower our entrepreneurs to dream big, to solve humanity’s real problems?”
He said unfortunately many still go just building another mutation of Groupon (deal sites), or another online caterer.
“Why can’t our youngsters be like Elon Musk?” he asked.
Well, I think the answer lies with the ecosystem – what young people are exposed to. If the smart youngsters (like many of our readers) are exposed to (and inspired) by the likes of Elon Musk, I am sure they will dream at least bigger than their cohort.
It’s about developing something that is meaningful. The next generation of entrepreneurs need to look beyond another deal site, transport app or online caterer, and dream big.
More importantly, it is not only about dreaming big, but also about going about trying to realize such dreams. Elon Musk has demonstrated that it is possible, when everyone around him was calling him crazy.
Many of you might have already read this book about Musk, and get inspired by Musk’s double desires: desire to work on human beings’ long term good, and the desire to do something exciting:
We believe you should watch this video as well, where Musk discusses his new project digging tunnels under LA, the latest from Tesla and SpaceX and his motivation for building a future on Mars in conversation:
Just like a SpaceX Falcon Heavy aiming to provide the boost of 18 Boeing 747s with all engines on full blast, this will also give you the shot more powerful than all the chicken soup you will ever get at the region’s millions of tech conferences.
